New Music Monday - Baltimore roots

Friday saw the release of a pair of albums by artists whose lives and careers trace their roots to Charm City. First up is wunderkind Lindsey Jordan, the confessional 19 year-old better known as Snail Mail. Channeling Car Seat Headrest's young adult angst with Sharon Van Etten's knack for wry self-reflection, Snail Mail might be this year's indie breakout artist. They're rolling through town tomorrow with a headlining set at The Black Cat, but that show is already sold out.

Up next is Brooklyn-based serpentwithfeet, the genre-bending R&B artist born Josiah Wise in northeast Baltimore. Queer, black, and unapologetic, his music channels the electro-soul of Sampha and James Blake and the liquid musicality of TV on the Radio. You can catch him 2 weeks from today at DC9.
