Throwback Thursday Videos - The Afghan Whigs

Greetings, sports racers, and apologies for the long absence. I've spent the last few weeks relocating my humble abode to a neighborhood more conducive to musical misadventures. In that vein, today's #TBTV selections are from seminal rockers The Afghan Whigs. Allegedly formed in a jail cell in Cincinnati, the boys from Ohio have been kicking rock's hornets' nests since the mid-80s. They somehow forged an unlikely amalgam of hard rock, R&B, and grunge that made for famously debauched albums and legendary live shows. Frontman Greg Dulli would prowl the stage like a sweaty postmodern take on Jim Morrison, raw sexuality rolling off him in waves as he seduced the crowd with a voice that both soared and growled.

The band is back with In Spades, their eighth studio album, and are hitting the road later this summer in support of it. They'll make a stop in DC on September 9, playing the 9:30 Club. For now, enjoy a pair of their classic videos, "Gentlemen" and "Somethin' Hot", on this sultry Thursday evening.
