Kicking off a new series, TGIF Video, to celebrate the week's end and the bottomless promise of another weekend upon us. Today's pick is the video for 'Rest Assured' by Australian folk duo Oh Pep!. I first heard them on NPR's preview of AmericanaFest, for which they seemed an interesting choice. That led me to their 4 song EP, which I've listened to essentially endlessly since then. This song is probably the quitest and least flashy of the bunch, but it may pack the hardest punch. From the opening strings, reminiscent of Radiohead's 'Let Down', to the gorgeous vocal crescendos of the chorus, this song bathes you in its low-fi lushness.
Oh Pep! is making the rounds of CMJ this weekend, and touring the US and Canada in the next few months. No mention of a DC or Baltimore tour date just yet, but I'll keep you posted as soon as I hear anything.
