MMS First Listen - 'Nova' EP by The Maytags

The Maytags, the new project from Iowa's Dustin Smith, are a six-piece rock & blue-eyed soul outfit. Think of them as the Sam Cooke to Saint Paul & the Broken Bones' Otis Redding, a purer, more mellow sound.

Recorded onto 2" tape at The Bomb Shelter recording studio in Nashville (Alabama Shakes), the Nova EP is 6 tracks and 30 minutes of groove-in-your-seat, horn-fueled soul. From the fat-bottomed, funky call and response on 'Blind' to the final strains of smoky slowdancer 'Birthday Song', you'll be nodding and jamming and swaying in your car, on the subway, or in the shower.

MetroMusicScene has the pleasure of bringing you a preview of the first single, 'Cassius', from Nova. The bass line is an instant classic, reminiscent of hits like 'Can't Hurry Love' and 'Band of Gold'. The song jukes its way through a silky smooth horn intro into a trill that'll send shivers up and down your spine.

Nova will be released on December 2, and the band will kick off a tour in support of the EP in spring 2015.
