The crew here at MMS has been fans of New Jersey's Stolen Jars since the beginning, and I've attended each of their two prior concerts in the District. Their simple melodies belie complex polyrhythms and intricate vocal interplay between bandleader Cody Fitzgerald and co-vocalist Molly Grund. Their music evokes comparisons to The Postal Service, tUnE-yArDs, and Dirty Projectors, but they exist in a space they've staked out for themselves. Their songs are intimate and unapologetic, at turns joyous and heartbreaking, always engaging.
Their latest release, glint, is billed as a visual EP, each song accompanied by a video created by a different visual artist. We have the pleasure of bringing you two of the videos from glint today, "Gone Away" and "Afterlight". You can catch Stolen Jars on their third trip to DC this Friday, opening for Bellows at Songbyrd.
A word of caution on the second video. It may trigger seizures for those with photosensitive epilepsy.
