MMS Concert Calendar Week of March 26, 2017

This week begins and ends with dueling concerts. Tomorrow features Patrick Watson at U Street Music Hall and Laura Stevenson at Black Cat.

It's been a long and colorful journey for Watson and his eponymous band. Nearly a decade into their existence, their sound has morphed from piano-driven chamber pop into more abstruse and experimental territory.

The colorfully costumed low-fi videos Laura Stevenson makes serve as an exclamation point to her sweetly acidic hybrid of 80s pop-punk and 90s riot grrl. The Long Island singer crafts smartly tongue-in-cheek pop that escapes the trap of musical post-irony.

North Carolina's Bombadil, reconstituted as a trio with the addition of Stacy Harden after longtime member Stuart Robinson departed in 2015, has a new album produced by John Vanderslice. Fences is another exquisitely crafted piece of chamber folk. They play at Songbyrd next Saturday.

Toronto punk-pop quartet Little Junior make their second trip to the District this year. Their new single drops on March 31, and they're at DC9 in support of Jay Som and The Courtneys for a sold-out show next Saturday.
