Many apologies for those of you missing the ConcertCast - a second degree sunburn disincentivizes someone from spending much time at a computer (or really, from doing anything besides being slathered with aloe vera and antibiotic ointment and stuck to the sheets).
Let's kick this first autumnal ConcertCast with Low and Andy Shauf at the Black Cat tonight. Don't call them sadcore; the muted sounds and beautifully layered harmonies of Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker make this band a minimal precursor to groups like The Postal Service. We've previously featured Andy on the blog for one of our Throwback Thursday Videos (TBTV). His breathy vocals and elaborate arrangements evoke Iron & Wine and Patrick Watson at turns.

I cannot contain how excited I am to see the next band on our ConcertCast. Good Graeff is comprised of twins Brooke and Brittany. I saw them open up for MMS favorites Mates of States a few months ago, and was utterly shattered by their set. Their sound will draw comparisons to other twin sister bands like Tegan & Sara and The Breeders, not unfairly, but their sound is much broader and more difficult to compartmentalize. The cello-driven tempo of songs like Hold Me Fast (which you can see above) are a higher energy version of early Ra Ra Riot. Their songs have an ascetic, punk bordering on shoegaze, ethos that reminds me of the stripped-down beauty of early aughts Yo La Tengo. Catch them Tuesday at DC9, or live the remainder of your days regretting your inactivity.
