By the Mark, Twain! - Blind Pilot at the 9:30 Club 11/6

Blind Pilot, the dreamy Portland outfit and an MMS favorite, glides into the District on Sunday evening for a show at the 9:30 Club. The duo-cum-sextet derived their name from the river pilots that original members Israel Nebeker and Ryan Dobrowski watched while recording their debut album, 3 Rounds and a Sound, on the top floor of an old cannery that overlooked the Columbia River. Their sound, reminiscent of outfits like Snow Patrol and The Dodos, wafts across you rather than assaulting you, not unlike the unearthly fog-like rain of their Pacific Northwest home.

Now two fathoms deep into a tour in support of their sophomore album, We Are the Tide, the original duo are joined by longtime musical collaborators that include bassist Luke Ydstie, banjoist Kati Claborn, vibraphonist Ian Krist, and keyboardist/trumpeter Dave Jorgenson. Opening for Blind Pilot will be Colorado-based multi-instrumentalist Gregory Alan Isakov. Doors open at 7:30 pm, and tickets are $18. Enjoy a listen to their single, "Keep You Right", and check out the show.
